EC and Area Reps/Chief OHO Steward, Stewards and Members
My daughter is on her way to Boston where the doctor have informed her they may induce her labor or schedule a risky C-Section due to her severe bleeding disorder and the fact that the baby keeps moving into a breach position. Not to mention the fact that he is already 7 pounds and still has 2 weeks to go. This means I will be needed to care for my nine year old grandson during all of this and my daughter will need help after.
As many may know my in August my Mom was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, afib, stenosis and a faulty heart valve. She is pretty much bed ridden with the exception of a few hours a day, on a good day, when she can sit in the living room. She can only walk a short distant with a walker. She is wheelchair bound when out of the house.
When I retired from the Agency and advised I would continue on to assist with arbitration cases, training and serve out my term as President my Mom's health was better and my daughter was not having these extreme complications.
After giving it much thought I have decided to retire/resign as Local President effective with the January meeting where I will swear in our EVP Greg Lalak as your new President.
I am asking EVP Greg Lalak to assume all Local Presidential duties as the acting President for November and December as I will be on Family Medical Leave.
I am Designating EVP Greg Lalak as the "point person" for the Union Office move issues, or his designee.
I will continue to be available by telephone text for representational questions and advise, but do not plan to be checking my email as often, therefore if urgent issue or question please text or call me at 978-807-6153.
Between now and the January meeting I will bring all Union files and equipment in my possession to the Union Storage facility.
I have served the Union since 1994, serving first as a union steward in my office, then became the Area 2 representative, then the Area 2 Vice President, Then the Executive Vice President and currently Local President. I have fought hard for employee rights, health and safety, working conditions, ergonomic furniture, fair and equitable treatment and fought to protect your rights, benefits and pensions both locally and nationally. I am extremely proud of my service and the many case victories over the years.
I have helped train many of your current reps including EVP Lalak and believe I am leaving you in very capable hands.
I will remain available for questions, advise, case strategy etc, but It is time for me to spend quality time with family and friends and reap the benefits of my labor. pun intended.
